Looking for a Colorado Photographer? Let's Capture the Good Stuff.
Colorado has a pretty great way of making ordinary moments feel a little extraordinary. One minute you're hiking through the mountains, the next you're watching the sun set over the Rockies, wondering why you don't spend every evening outside. Add in a wedding, an engagement, or a growing family, and you've got a pretty good reason to grab a camera.
I'm Erik Hibbard, the photographer behind Erik Hibbard Photography. I'm based in Colorado, and I'm here to help you capture the big moments, the little moments, and all the wonderfully imperfect stuff in between.
My approach to photography is simple: bring some experience, keep things fun, and create photos that feel like *you*. Whether you're planning a wedding, celebrating an engagement, or trying to get everyone in the family in one place for a photo, I'm here to make the experience enjoyable from start to finish.
And don't worry. You don't need to know what to do with your hands. We've all been there.
Colorado Is a Pretty Great Place to Make Memories
One of the best things about being a photographer in Colorado is the variety. We have mountain views, open fields, winding trails, city streets, beautiful parks, and plenty of places to catch some seriously good light.
But here's the thing: you don't need a dramatic mountain backdrop to get great photos.
Some of my favorite kinds of moments happen when people are simply being themselves. A couple laughing at an inside joke. Parents chasing their kids around a park. Friends tearing up the dance floor at a wedding. Those are the moments that give photos personality and make them worth coming back to years later.
Colorado gives us an incredible backdrop, but the people in front of the camera are what make the photos meaningful.
Colorado Wedding Photography: More Than Just the Big Moments
Your wedding day is going to fly by. Everyone tells you this, and then you blink and suddenly you're cutting the cake, hugging your college roommate, and wondering how it's already time for the last dance.
That's why wedding photography matters.
Of course, we'll capture the important stuff: the ceremony, the portraits, the first dance, and all the moments you've spent months planning. But I also want to capture the things you might not even notice in the moment.
Your parents watching you walk down the aisle. Your best friends losing their minds on the dance floor. The quick hug with someone you haven't seen in years. The little glances between you and your partner when things finally slow down for a second.
As your Colorado wedding photographer, my goal is to document your day in a way that brings you right back to it. I'll provide direction when it's helpful, keep things moving when the schedule gets busy, and give you space to enjoy what's happening around you.
Because your wedding day should be about getting married, celebrating with your favorite people, and having a ridiculously good time. Not spending the entire day worrying about the camera.
Colorado Engagement Photography: Just Be Yourselves
Engagement photos are a chance to celebrate this season of life before the wedding whirlwind takes over.
They're also a great opportunity to get comfortable in front of the camera before the big day.
My favorite engagement sessions feel less like a formal photoshoot and more like hanging out with your favorite person. We can explore an outdoor location, take a walk, find a beautiful spot to catch the evening light, or plan something that reflects the two of you.
Love hiking? Let's head outside. Prefer a laid-back afternoon together? We can keep it simple. Have a favorite place that means something to your relationship? Even better.
You don't need to show up with a list of poses or a perfectly curated Pinterest board. I'll help guide you through the session so you feel comfortable, while leaving room for the natural moments that happen along the way.
The goal isn't to make you look like somebody else. It's to create photos that make you think, "Yep, that's us."
And if you happen to laugh so hard that the perfectly planned pose falls apart? Even better.
Colorado Family Photography: The Messy Stuff Is the Good Stuff
Family photos are funny. We spend so much time trying to get everyone to look at the camera, smile at the same time, and behave for approximately 30 seconds that we sometimes forget what we're actually trying to capture.
Your family.
The personalities. The goofy smiles. The little hand that always finds yours. The kid who can't sit still. The dog who somehow ends up in every photo. The way everyone piles together when it's time to head home.
That's the stuff you'll want to remember.
My approach to family photography is relaxed and flexible. We'll find a location that works for your crew, let everyone settle in, and make space for genuine moments to happen. I'll offer direction when we need it, but there's no expectation that your family needs to behave like a catalog shoot.
Colorado's outdoors can make a wonderful setting for family photos, but your home or another meaningful location can work just as well.
And don't worry if the kids are a little wild. They're kids. That's kind of the point.
Whether you're documenting a new addition to the family, celebrating a milestone, or simply realizing that everyone is growing up way too fast, a family session is a chance to preserve a little piece of life exactly as it is right now.
What Makes a Great Photography Experience?
Great photos aren't just about the camera, the lighting, or finding the perfect location. They're also about how you feel while the photos are being taken.
If you're uncomfortable, constantly worrying about how you look, or wondering what you're supposed to do next, it's tough to relax into the moment.
That's why I believe the experience matters just as much as the final gallery.
Here's what you can expect when working with Erik Hibbard Photography:
A relaxed approach. I'll help you feel comfortable without turning your session into a series of stiff, overly posed moments.
Guidance when you need it. You don't need to know how to pose. I'll offer direction, help you find natural ways to interact, and keep things moving.
An eye for the in-between moments. The big milestones matter, but so do the unexpected laughs, quiet glances, and little details that make your story unique.
Photos that feel like you. My goal is to create images that reflect your relationships and personalities, not make you fit someone else's idea of what a photoshoot should look like.
A good time along the way. Getting your photos taken doesn't have to feel like a chore. We can make it fun, keep it relaxed, and create something meaningful together.
When Is the Best Time to Take Photos in Colorado?
Colorado gives us plenty of options throughout the year, and each season brings something different to the table.
Spring can be great for fresh greenery, blooming flowers, and a lighter feel. Weather can be unpredictable, so flexibility is your friend.
Summer offers long evenings, outdoor adventures, and plenty of opportunities for mountain and meadow sessions. It's also a popular time for weddings, so planning ahead is a good idea.
Fall brings beautiful golden tones, changing leaves in many areas, and that unmistakable Colorado autumn atmosphere. It's a favorite for couples and families alike.
Winter offers a completely different look, from snow-covered landscapes to cozy in-home sessions. If you love the mountains in winter, we can plan around the conditions and choose a location that makes sense.
For outdoor sessions, I often recommend considering the time of day as well as the season. Early morning and late afternoon can offer beautiful, softer light, depending on the location and weather.
The most important thing? Choose a time and setting that fit your vision, and leave a little room for Colorado to do its thing.
Let's Capture Something Worth Remembering
Whether you're planning a Colorado wedding, celebrating your engagement, or looking to get some updated family photos, I'd love to hear what you have in mind.
You don't need a huge occasion to book a session. You don't need to know exactly what you want. And you definitely don't need to be a professional model.
You just need a reason to want to remember this season of life.
I'm Erik, and I believe photography should be about more than checking a box or getting a nice photo for the wall. It's about preserving the people, places, and moments that mean something to you.
So let's get outside, celebrate something good, wrangle the kids, document the dance floor, or simply make some photos together.
You bring the people. I'll bring the camera.
